Opposition protests disrupt Indian parliament for 3rd day over NEET paper leak
INDIA bloc demands resignation of Amit Shah and Dharmendra Pradhan
New Delhi : Proceedings of both Houses of the Indian Parliament remained disrupted for the third consecutive day on Wednesday as the Opposition intensified its protest over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak and the police crackdown on student protesters, demanding the resignation of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal raised the issues of the paper leak and police action against students in the Lok Sabha, while Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge pressed the matter in the Upper House, insisting that Dharmendra Pradhan must resign before any meaningful discussion could take place.
Leaders of several INDIA bloc parties, dressed in black, staged a protest in the Parliament complex in solidarity with students protesting over the NEET, an India-wide entrance examination for admission in undergraduate medical programs, paper leak. The opposition MPs demanded the resignation of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, over the police crackdown on the demonstrators.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and MPs from the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Left parties, RJD, TMC, JMM and other INDIA bloc constituents participated in the demonstration after a strategy meeting of the alliance’s floor leaders chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge.
The continued disruption of Parliament came amid mounting opposition pressure on the BJP-led Indian government over the handling of the NEET controversy and the use of force against students protesting in New Delhi.
