CJP volunteer Junaid, family released after police harassment
New Delhi: Mohammad Junaid, a Muslim volunteer with the Cockroach Janta Party who gained attention for distributing food to protesters at Jantar Mantar, and his family members have been released.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Junaid said he was detained by men in plainclothes claiming to be Delhi Police on Friday night while returning from hospital in Delhi. He said he was blindfolded, questioned about protest funding, and later abandoned in Mussoorie, UP.
Junaid further said that UP Police raided his home in Masuri, Ghaziabad, detained his father and minor brother, and picked up other relatives in Meerut. Delhi Police said they were looking into the allegations. Meerut and Ghaziabad police denied any detentions. Civil rights group APCR said it met the family and assured legal assistance.
The CJP called off its protest on Saturday after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned.
