Baramulla incident reignites concerns over women’s safety in IIOJK
Rights observers say recurring violence has deepened fear among women
Srinagar : The reported sexual assault case in Baramulla district has renewed concerns over the safety and security of women in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with rights observers calling for an impartial investigation and accountability for those responsible.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident comes shortly after another similar case in Budgam, raising alarm over recurring violence against women in the occupied territory.
Rights advocates and political observers said the repeated incidents have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among women and their families. They argued that despite the heavy deployment of Indian military and paramilitary forces across towns, highways and villages, ordinary citizens continue to face serious threats to their safety.
The observers further said that the authorities have failed to ensure effective civilian protection and accountability, while the prevailing environment and prolonged conflict have contributed to a climate of fear. They urged an independent and transparent investigation into the Baramulla incident and called for measures to safeguard the rights and dignity of women.
They maintained that ensuring justice for victims and preventing such crimes require effective law enforcement, accountability and respect for fundamental human rights.
