CJP founder asks Modi if ‘forgiveness’ means withdrawal of cases
CJP warns of intensive protests if harassment of students goes unchecked
New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi whether his message of “forgiveness” for students who used abusive language during recent protests would also include withdrawal of criminal cases registered against them.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the exchange followed Modi’s fifth Instagram video in a week, where he addressed the controversy over offensive remarks made against him and his late mother during the nationwide student protests. While condemning the language, Modi said punishment alone would not resolve the issue and added, “I wish to forgive them… Let’s guide the misguided.” Within minutes, Dipke responded in the comments section, asking, “Sirf reel par hi maaf karoge ya cases bhi vapas loge?” (Will you forgive them only in a reel, or will you also withdraw the cases?)
The dispute comes as legal action against student protesters has emerged as the latest point of confrontation between the CJP and the government following demonstrations over examination paper leaks and alleged irregularities, which led to the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The CJP said that students are being harassed and threatened with arrest, warning of larger protests if the issue is not addressed. The party said while several states have withdrawn FIRs, cases against protesters with alleged criminal antecedents continue. It noted the Supreme Court has directed states to release all minors and those without criminal antecedents detained during CJP-led protests.
