School, several houses damaged after landslide hits IIOJK’s Mendhar

Jammu: A huge landslide has caused widespread damage in Sarouti Jabran village of Sub-Division Mendhar of Poonch in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir where a school and several houses have already collapsed, while cracks are gradually developing in many of the remaining houses.

According to Kashmir Media Service, local residents said the landslide had been moving slowly for the past several days, but the situation has now become extremely serious as the ground continues to slide.

They said the entire settlement is reportedly under threat, with fears that more houses may collapse in the coming days.

The affected residents are living in fear and uncertainty, particularly due to the continuous movement of the land and the increasing cracks appearing in their houses, they added.

The residents have urged the authorities to immediately assess the situation and take urgent measures to shift the affected families to a safe location to prevent any loss of life.

The residents have urged the administration to send an expert team to the spot on an emergency basis, conduct a detailed assessment of the affected area, and make immediate arrangements for the safe relocation of the entire vulnerable settlement.
