14 dead, thousands displaced as rains, floods strike southern India
New Delhi:At least 14 people have died and thousands have been left homeless due to heavy rains and floods in various parts of South India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian media reports said that the death toll in rain-related accidents in the state of Kerala had risen to 11, while about 7,700 people had been shifted to safer places and shifted to 275 relief camps across the state.
A Kerala provincial minister said that relief activities were underway in the affected areas.
Chief Minister VD Sathisan said that he would meet the district authorities and review the arrangements for the relief camps.
He said that clean-up work had started in the flood-affected areas.
Several schools in Kerala were also closed due to heavy rains, while the government postponed the state-level teacher recruitment exam.
