Court denies bail to accused in Nagrota Army Camp attack case
Jammu: A Special NIA court has rejected the bail application of a Kashmiri youth falsely implicated in the 2016 Nagrota Army Camp attack case in Jammu, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir citing the “seriousness” of the allegations and the possibility of “influencing witnesses”.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Special Judge for NIA Cases, Jammu, Prem Sagar dismissed the bail plea of Syed Munir-ul-Hassan Qadri after hearing arguments from the defence and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The case pertains to the November 29, 2016 attack on an Indian Army camp near Baleeni Bridge in Nagrota, in which seven Indian Army personnel were killed.
The NIA claimed that Qadri acted as a key conspirator and facilitator by arranging logistics, safe shelters, transportation, communication devices, and facilitating the movement of arms and ammunition. It also alleged that he provided reconnaissance support and channelled funds for the attack. The allegations are yet to be proven in court.
The court observed that 42 of the 104 prosecution witnesses have been examined, while several material witnesses are still to testify.
Rejecting the bail application, the court held that prolonged detention alone could not be treated as a ground for granting bail in cases registered under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
It observed that releasing the youh at this stage could adversely affect the larger interest of India.
