“Compromised PM was forced to sell India’s interest”: Congress after Adani charges dismissed
New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that the Modi government compromised India’s interests after a US federal judge permanently dismissed criminal charges against Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “A compromised PM was forced to sell India’s interest. India is paying a huge price.”
“There is much more to this than meets the eye,” he asserted, sharing a media report on the US Justice Department’s request to dismiss the charges.
US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the Eastern District of New York approved the Justice Department’s request, bringing an end to three criminal charges against Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and former Adani Green Energy CEO Vneet Jaain. The charges involved securities-fraud conspiracy, wire-fraud conspiracy and securities fraud.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate also criticized the Modi government, saying that it had “bartered away Hindustan’s interests”, ignored farmers and “sacrificed” the country’s youth, industries and businesses to save “America’s friend”. “This country will pay the price,” she said in a post on X.
The Modi government has faced repeated allegations from opposition parties, particularly the Congress, of favouring the Adani Group and its chairman Gautam Adani. Congress leaders have for years accused the government of providing the conglomerate preferential access to government contracts, regulatory clearances and state-linked financing.
