APHC calls for urgent world attention to simmering Kashmir situation

Says unresolved dispute poses serious nuclear threat to South Asia

Srinagar, August 16 (KMS): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take immediate and effective steps to address the simmering situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, warning that continued Indian state repression and the unresolved Kashmir dispute pose a grave threat to peace and security in South Asia.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said the world must not remain indifferent to the state terrorism unleashed by India in Kashmir. He stressed that Kashmir was not an internal matter of India but an internationally recognized dispute and a potential nuclear flashpoint in South Asia.

The spokesman said the unresolved Kashmir dispute could provide the spark that ignites South Asia’s nuclear fuse, with potentially catastrophic consequences for the entire region and beyond. He urged the United Nations to intervene effectively to facilitate a just and lasting settlement of the dispute in accordance with its resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Abdul Rashid Minhas said the Kashmir crisis was dangerously simmering and warned that continued delays in resolving the dispute would have serious consequences for regional and global peace. He said India had consistently impeded efforts towards a just solution by refusing to address the Kashmiris’ legitimate demand for the right to self-determination.

The APHC spokesman said a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute was essential to ending prolonged instability and tensions in South Asia. He urged world powers to recognize the gravity of the situation and act before the crisis escalated further. He warned that continued international indifference to the suffering of the Kashmiri people and India’s persistent repression in IIOJK could have disastrous consequences. “If the world powers fail to respond in time, the Kashmir dispute can lead to a nuclear holocaust,” he cautioned.

The APHC reiterated its appeal to the international community to break its silence, compel India to end its human rights abuses in IIOJK and facilitate a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
