ABVP members attack EFLU Students’ Union, NSUI activists
Students dragged from bathrooms, beaten with rods
Hyderabad: Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) allegedly launched a brutal attack on EFLU Students’ Union leaders and NSUI members at the English and Foreign Languages University, leaving several students injured and campus property vandalized.
According to Kashmir Media Service and FIR 414/2026 registered at Osmania University Police, the violence began on the night of August 13 during a protest outside Mah Laqa Bai Chanda Hostel for Women. Students alleged ABVP members used casteist slurs and assaulted the Students’ Union vice president and Arab and Asian councillor.
Around 4 am on August 14, a group reportedly entered Basheer Men’s Hostel armed with iron rods, bamboo sticks, beer bottles and belts. Students were dragged out of bathrooms while bleeding, beaten in corridors, and their rooms and belongings were vandalized. Harsh Tamrakar was allegedly struck with a beer bottle on the head and neck, Sohil Yadav was assaulted with an iron rod, and Prashant Singh was beaten with bamboo sticks and remained unconscious. Four students were hospitalized.
The Students’ Union alleged police and university administration failed to intervene, and accused the Deputy Proctor of instructing police not to register an FIR initially.
The EFLU Students’ Union said repeated violence by ABVP reflects administrative negligence and demanded action against repeat offenders.
