Two undertrials flee Central Jail Srinagar
Srinagar: Two undertrial prisoners escaped from Central Jail Srinagar in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the two inmates, including a non-Kashmiri Indian citizen, were booked in separate cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. They escaped from the high-security prison after scaling its front wall, officials said.
The escaped inmates have been identified as Farman Khan, a resident of Sadanpora, Rajasthan, India, and Mukhtar Ahmed Gujar, a resident of Sanglan Chittergul in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district.
Farman Khan was lodged in the jail on June 23 in connection with an FIR registered at Lar Police Station in Ganderbal district under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act, including provisions relating to penetrative sexual assault.Similarly, Mukhtar Ahmed Gujar was lodged in the jail on April 13 in connection with a separate FIR registered at Soura Police Station in Srinagar under various sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act, officials said.
A massive manhunt has been launched to trace and apprehend the escaped inmates, officials added. Further details regarding the circumstances of their escape are awaited.Police have issued a wanted notice for both escapees and announced a reward for information leading to their arrest.
