PM Shehbaz Sharif’s UNGA address boosts Kashmiris’ morale: DFP

Pakistan effectively representing Kashmiris’ sentiments globally: Tehreek-e-Wahdat, Pairwan

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s forceful highlighting of the Kashmir dispute during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, saying it has boosted the morale of Kashmiris suffering under Indian occupation.

DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said PM Shehbaz Sharif had once again highlighted the sensitivity and international character of the Kashmir dispute and the issue of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination at the world’s foremost international forum.

He said Pakistan had been advocating the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir dispute at the international level for decades, which, he added, was deeply appreciated by the Kashmiri people.

Arshad Iqbal said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his address, had drawn the the international community’s attention to the continuing human rights violations, suffering of the Kashmiri people and the overall situation in occupied Jammu Kashmir.

He said that the prolonged detention of political prisoners and Hurriyat leaders, violations of prisoners’ fundamental rights, seizure and demolition of homes and properties, restrictions on political and social activities, and the hardships faced by ordinary citizens in IIOJK needed to be consistently highlighted at the international level. Similarly, he said, the difficulties and pressures faced by journalists, lawyers, human rights defenders, civil society members and doctors in occupied Jammu and Kashmir should be effectively brought before international human rights institutions.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Fayaz Hussain Jafri and patron of Pairwan-e-Wilayat Maulana Sibti Shabbir Qomi, in separate statements issued in Srinagar, also appreciated the Pakistani prime minister’s address to the UN General Assembly, describing it as a reflection of the sentiments of the Kashmiri people.

They said Pakistan was not only an important party to the Kashmir dispute but also a major advocate of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. They said Pakistan had been advocating the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination at the international level for the past 78 years and fully representing their feelings and sentiments, for which, they said, the people of IIOJK were grateful.

Fayaz Hussain Jafri and Sibti Shabbir Qomi further said India was pursuing an aggressive policy of suppressing the Kashmiri people’s voice through military force. They said Kashmiris, despite Indian repression, remained committed to their cause and determined to take the mission of their martyrs to its logical conclusion.
