BJP govt shielding Indian CEC, says Priyanka Gandhi

New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is shielding the Indian Chief Election Commissioner.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Priyanka Gandhi in a statement in New Delhi said that the BJP government granted this protection to protect the Election Commission from accountability.

She reiterated the demand for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation, noting that the INDIA bloc (an alliance of opposition parties) is united in demanding his dismissal.

She stated, “The legal protection granted to the Election Commissioner—which the BJP government implemented to ensure immunity regardless of his actions—must be revoked.”

Priyanka Gandhi asserted that if anyone engages in illegal acts against the country and its Constitution, they should be prosecuted for such criminal conduct, as it amounts to treason.

She remarked that the BJP government was shielding the Election Commissioner; if an Election Commissioner commits such grave offences against democracy, doing so would be practically impossible without the backing of the incumbent government. Therefore, ‘we demand the immediate resignation of Gyanesh Kumar; the INDIA bloc is united in the view that current events are entirely illegal and unconstitutional.
