West Bengal: Unknown assailants shoot BJP leader dead in Birbhum district

Birbhum: Unknown assailants have shot and killed a local leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Birbhum district of the Indian state of West Bengal.

According to the Kashmir Media Service (KMS), 47-year-old Chandan Bhalla, a BJP divisional president, was killed on Sunday night in the Trishulapatti area of Bolpur. He was shot in the head at close range while on the road.

The attackers fled the scene after confirming the BJP leader’s death. Panic and terror gripped the area following the killing.

A heavy police contingent arrived at the scene and took the body into custody. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the perpetrators.

The deceased’s elder brother and wife have expressed suspicion regarding the involvement of BJP workers in Chandan Bhalla’s murder.

According to his wife, Shyamali, Bhalla was involved in the real estate business and had left home to show a plot to a client at the time of the incident.
