Allied & Healthcare students protest over internship delay in Jammu

Jammu: Students of Allied & Healthcare staged a protest outside Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, demanding immediate commencement of their mandatory internship.
The protesting students carrying placards reading “Our Internship, Our Right – Start It Without Further Delay” and “Don’t Jeopardize Our Future” said they have completed all academic requirements but internship has been inordinately delayed.
They said the course has stretched into fourth year beyond prescribed timeline, affecting academic completion, career progression, financial planning and eligibility for employment, higher studies and competitive examinations.
The students said they approached authorities several times and submitted representations, but no definite date was communicated. The delay, they said, has also imposed extra financial burden on families for accommodation, travel and education.
Demanding immediate commencement of internship for eligible Batch 2022-23 students along with transparent and time-bound schedule for internship and degree formalities, they said: “We have invested years in this course and are only asking for opportunity to complete required internship and move ahead with our careers.”
