Congress President declares Modi ‘illegal’ PM
Demands dissolution of Lok Sabha, all state assemblies

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has demanded the dissolution of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, and all state legislative assemblies.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mallikarjun Kharge, while addressing a press conference on Saturday, stated that all elections held in the country were illegal; consequently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the state Chief Ministers are also illegal. He called for the dissolution of all these legislative bodies and the holding of fresh elections, insisting that ballot papers be used instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
He remarked that the entire country was currently functioning based on illegal elections. He asserted that Modi was an illegal Prime Minister, Amit Shah is an illegal Home Minister, and all elected Chief Ministers are illegal.
He reiterated that these bodies should be dissolved, new elections held, and the voting process conducted using ballot papers.
Alleging the misuse of EVMs, Kharge noted that even people within the ruling camp are discussing this issue. He also raised serious questions regarding the ongoing processes in several states, stating that the government has committed numerous irregularities and errors that are directly impacting the democratic process and weakening democracy.
Referring to the INDIA alliance meeting regarding the electoral roll issue, the Congress President stated that members from 20 political parties and representatives of their legal cells participated in the meeting held on September 30.
According to Kharge, all parties agreed that the current state of the electoral rolls is detrimental to the country. He noted that the impact was felt most acutely by the poor, the less educated, labourers, and, in particular, minorities. He affirmed that the opposition would continue its nationwide campaign against the misuse of electoral rolls and the electoral process.
Kharge questioned how an election could be termed impartial if 500 votes were removed from the voter list of a single polling booth. He pointed out that there were attempts to delete voters’ names and efforts to add names are simultaneously underway.
He also raised questions regarding the 2023 law governing the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners.
Expressing concern over the prevailing situation, he stated that the country must now decide whether to save democracy or allow it to perish. He announced that opposition Members of Parliament would march to the Election Commission on October 6.
