Negotiations must be held on all outstanding issues including Kashmir: Pakistan

New York: Pakistan has called upon the United Nations to halt the arms race in the region, asserting that negotiations must be held on all outstanding issues, including occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Tahir Andrabi, speaking at the UN General Assembly, stated that the scope of conflicts worldwide is expanding, adherence to international law is weakening, and the path of restraint is being abandoned.

He emphasized the need to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, noting that mediation efforts between Iran and the United States resulted in a ceasefire and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving Islamabad.

The Pakistani Permanent Representative stated that the South Asian region is plagued by instability due to India’s aggressive military doctrines and is under pressure resulting from India’s massive military expansion.

Tahir Andrabi remarked that while Pakistan does not seek an arms race, it will maintain necessary defense capabilities. He added that it is a fallacy to believe a war can remain under control when nuclear capabilities are involved.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Tahir Hussain Andrabi, reiterated that negotiations must take place regarding all unresolved issues, including occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He explained that the Makkah Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye is defensive in nature and aligns with the UN Charter.
