Two Indian army man killed in Manipur attack
Imphal: Two Indian army man were killed and two others were critically injured in an attack in violence-hit Manipur state of India.
The Indian army men identified as Wangkhem Somorjit Meetei and Takhellambam Sailesh were killed after they were attacked by guerilas in Moreh town.
Two other Indian army personnel were also injured in the attack launched by suspected Kuki guerrillias in Tengnoupal district of the state.
The Manipur guerilas who want independence from Indian hegemony threw bombs and fired at a post of Indian army near an SBI in Moreh, the police said.
Additionally, they launched RPG shells at the makeshift commando post, causing damage to multiple parked vehicles nearby.
Earlier, the Manipur government had imposed a total curfew from 12 am on January 16 in most of areas including Tengnoupal of the state.
The Kuki tribes have said that Indian police is attacking Kuki civilians.
Over 180 have died and thousands have been internally displaced in the Manipur violence that began on May 3, 2023.
