Karnataka tense after deputy CM says BJP disturbing peace for political gains
Bengaluru: The situation in Karnataka has worsened, with tension rising after Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is deliberately disturbing peace in Mandya district for political gains.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the focal point of the controversy is the hoisting and subsequent removal of a saffron flag in Keragodu Village.
Shivakumar asserted that BJP leaders are taking advantage of the political landscape in Mandya, especially after facing setbacks in various constituencies. He emphasized the people’s commitment to tolerance and secularism in Mandya, expressing confidence that the BJP’s attempts to disrupt peace would not find success.
In response to the statement, the Karnataka BJP has launched protests across all district headquarters, condemning the removal of the saffron flag. During a protest in Bengaluru at Mysuru Bank Circle, the Leader of the Opposition, R Ashoka, and several others were taken into police custody.
Both BJP and Janata Dal Secular (JD-S) leaders participated in a foot march from Keragodu Village to the District Commissioner’s office in Mandya, condemning the incident. Plans to lay siege to the office were announced, leading to heightened police security in the city and barricades in Keragodu Village. KMS-18K
