Three more killed in violence-hit Manipur
Imphal: Violence refuses to die down in Manipur as three more persons have been killed in the Indian state.
Three “armed” Meitei persons were killed in a gunfight with Kuki groups. The gunfight between the Meitei and Kuki groups took place at Nakhujang and Bethel areas along the boundary of Manipur’s Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi district and the Meitei-dominated Imphal West district, a senior police official in Kangpokpi told media on the condition of anonymity.
“The firing was so intense that even Indian Assam Rifles and Army could not move in between,” the official said.
Manipur has been gripped by ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities since early May. Over 200 people have been killed since the conflict broke out and nearly 67,000 persons have been forced to flee their homes. KMS—19R
