UP court allows Hindus to perform puja in Gyanvapi mosque
Varanasi: In another proof of collusion between Indian government and its judiciary, the Varanasi Court has granted permission to Hindu devotees to perform puja in the Gyanvapi mosque premises in the BJP-ruled northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The court’s decision is based on the case of Somnath Vyas’ basement, where religious ceremonies were conducted by the Vyas family until 1993 when the state government issued an order to cease such activities.
As per the court order, priests from the Vishwanath Temple have been authorized to conduct prayers in the sealed area known as ‘Vyas Ka Tehkhana.’ The administration has been directed to make arrangements for the puja within seven days.
This decision has been met with strong criticism, with Muslims expressing concerns about desecration of their worship places.
Critics are also raising questions about the impartiality of the Indian judiciary, terming the court as a pliant entity that seems to be yielding to external pressures.
