Mirwaiz placed under house detention in Srinagar
Srinagar: Authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have put senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his residence, today.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Anjuman Auqaf in a statement issued in Srinagar, strongly denouncing the repeated house arrest of Mirwaiz, said that he was put under house detention to prevent him from visiting Srinagar Jamia Masjid and participating in the mandatory Friday prayers.
The Anjuman said a large gathering of people were expected at the mosque to hear the Mirwaiz’s sermon and participate in the blessed congregation. But early in the morning, a contingent of police vehicles was stationed outside his residence and he was detained, it deplored.
The authorities are deliberately and without assigning any reason preventing Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from performing his official and religious duties, it said, adding such actions are hurting the religious sentiments and emotions of the Muslims in the occupied territory.
It expressed hope that the authorities would immediately shun the undemocratic policy of disallowing Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from performing his duties on Fridays and free him from the shackles of unlawful house arrest so that he fulfills his official and religious responsibilities.
