Hindutva-aligned traders’ body ask Muslim shopkeepers to leave Uttarakhand town
Muslim man assaulted for seeking donations for mosque
Dehradun: In yet another example of growing intolerance and bigotry towards India’s Muslim community, Muslim traders have been asked to leave the Dharchula town in Uttarakhand state by the local traders’ association dominated by the Hindutva BJP and RSS activists.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the local traders’ association not only asked at least 86 Muslim traders to leave but also cancelled the registration of their shops.
The Association while targeting the Muslim community blamed them of being “outsiders”.
The trigger for this drastic action was the arrest of a Muslim barber on the false charge of abducting two Hindu girls.
Members of the Muslim community in Dharchula town have expressed deep concern and dismay over the situation.
They refute the accusations of being “outsiders” and assert that they have been contributing to the local economy for years without any issues. The cancellation of their shop registrations has put their livelihoods at risk, leading to economic uncertainty and hardship.
Meanwhile, a Muslim person was beaten up by a Hindutva man in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state. The Muslim man, Abdul Aziz, was collecting donations for a mosque when he was attacked by Neeraj Bhatti in Salarpur village of Noida.
Abdul Aziz from Bihar’s Kishanganj was beaten up by a local resident named Neeraj Bhatti at a village in Noida, police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Vidya Sagar Mishra said, “A 35-year-old man, who had come to Salarpur from Bihar to collect donations, was assaulted by a 45-year-old local resident.”
