Fourth Indian arrested in Canada for Nijjar’s murder

Ottawa: Canada has arrested a fourth person and charged him with the murder of Khalistani Sikh Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canadian police said.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Hardeep Singh Nijjar advocated for a separate Sikh state, known as Khalistan, carved out of India. On June 18, 2023, he was shot dead by masked assailants in the parking lot of the Sikh temple he led in suburban Vancouver.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) informed that they have arrested one Amandeep Singh and charged him with first-degree murder and conspiracy of Nijjar’s killing.

Twenty two years old Amandeep Singh, an Indian national residing in Brampton, Surrey and Abbotsford, was already in custody in Ontario for unrelated firearms charges, said the IHIT.

“This arrest shows the nature of our ongoing investigation to hold responsible those that played a role in the homicide of Hardeep Singh Nijjar,” said Mandeep Mooker, IHIT officer in-charge.

Amandeep Singh is now the fourth person arrested in the case alongside Karan Brar, 22, Kamalpreet Singh, 22 and Karanpreet Singh, 28. The trio have been arrested under the same charges in connection to Nijjar’s killing.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing, in which Canada sees an Indian role, has been a thorn in bilateral ties.
