APHC-AJK condemns arrest of Adv Mian Qayoom, calls for int’l intervention
Islamabad: All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi has strongly condemned the arrest of prominent Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, the former President of the High Court Bar Association in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, under frivolous and fabricated charges.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Islamabad, the APHC-AJK Convener resolved to urge the United Nations and other human rights bodies to demand the release of Mian Abdul Qayoom, who was recently detained by the New Delhi-controlled State Investigation Agency (SIA) on June 25, 2024, under a fabricated case.
He said that Mian Abdul Qayoom’s arbitrary detention is based on political vendetta, with India weaponizing black laws to break his resolve.
At an advanced age and surviving on a single kidney, Qayoom suffers from multiple chronic ailments, including diabetes, hypertension, severe nerve damage, and a 60% blockage in one of his heart arteries, he said, adding these health issues have weakened his immune system, making him highly susceptible to deadly viruses with minimal chances of survival.
Previously, Mian Abdul Qayoom was detained under the draconian Public Safety Act on August 4, 2019, a day before the Modi government’s illegal abrogation of Article 370. During his incarceration, Qayoom suffered a major heart attack and was transferred from jail to the S.N. Medical College in Agra for treatment.
