Lucknow: A video has gone viral showing BJP leader Sunita Sharma threatening Muslim shopkeepers selling meat in a in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Sharma demanded that the shopkeepers vacate the area immediately, warning them of dire consequences if they disobeyed.
“I have learned there are two biryani shops in this area. This is a Hindu area, and our Yogi Ji (Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath) says no meat shops should operate here. Listen carefully, vacate the shop immediately,” Sharma said during a public gathering in Ramganga Vihar area.
Sharma’s remarks have sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing her of promoting communal polarization and violating constitutional principles of equality and religious freedom. Activists and political commentators have expressed concerns that such rhetoric could incite violence and disturb social harmony.
Legal experts point out that Sharma’s threats could violate provisions of the Indian Penal Code related to incitement and hate speech. However, local law enforcement authorities have yet to take action against her.
This incident is not an isolated one, as there have been previous instances of right-wing activists demanding the removal of meat shops in towns, citing religious sentiments.
