Former Indian Navy chief questions combat capabilities of Agni Veers

New Delhi: Former Indian Navy chief Arun Prakash has questioned the combat capability of the Agni Veers amid opposition demands to scrap the controversial Agneepath recruitment scheme.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Arun Prakash in a post on X said there is a lot of talk about the discriminatory treatment of Agni Veers in the Indian Army and their future after the end of their service, but no one is questioning their fighting ability.

He said, “Is anyone concerned about their deployment in combat units?” He said due to this scheme of the Modi government, the army is forced to keep very less trained men in the service. He said Agniveer is trained enough to act as a sentry.

In response to his post on X, Sachin Pawar, a former Indian Army officer, said, “Nothing will change until the three forces leaders of India do not oppose this scheme. He said the Agnipath scheme is very dangerous for the Indian Army.

In his first speech as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi criticized the Modi government for starting this scheme in 2022 without consultation.
