Amarnath Yatra temporarily suspended due to heavy rainfall in IIOJK
Srinagar: The Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended today as heavy rainfall persists along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision to suspend the Hindu yatra temporarily was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the pilgrims amidst intermittent heavy rainfall since last night, Indian officials said.
Already, over 1.50 lakh yatris have visited the 3,800-metre-high Amarnath cave in south Kashmir Himalayas. The yatra, which commenced on June 29 via the 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Islamabad district and the 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal, is scheduled to continue until August 19.
