Modi regime opens temple, amid fears of hinduization of Muslim-majority Kashmir
Srinagar: As part of the Modi-led Indian government’s efforts to Hinduize the Muslim majority occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a temple has been inaugurated in Islamabad district, with Indian central Minister Nityanand Rai attending the opening ceremony.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the territory’s overall population sees the move as part of a larger attempt to Hinduize Muslim-majority Kashmir.
The opening of the temple named Uma Bhagwati comes at a time when the territory is already undergoing amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, aimed at consolidating Indian control over the disputed territory.
Critics argue that the opening of the temple is part of a systematic effort to erase the Muslim identity of Kashmir and impose Hindu dominance. “This is not just about opening a temple, it’s about perpetuating a narrative that Kashmir is a Hindu land, and Muslims are outsiders,” said a local resident.
The move has sparked concerns among the Muslim population in Kashmir, who fear that their cultural and religious identity is under threat. As the political situation in Kashmir continues to simmer, the opening of the Uma Bhagwati temple has become a flashpoint in the ongoing struggle for power and identity in the occupied territory.
