Muslim cop killed in suspect circumstances in UP, family demands probe

Lucknow: A Muslim police constable, Mohammad Yaqub, was fatally shot in the head in Aligarh district of BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state, in what police claim was an accidental firing, however, the family has raised doubts over the official version, seeking a thorough investigation.

According Kashmir Media Service, a bullet discharged from Sub-Inspector Rajeev Kumar’s jammed pistol during a raid in Gavana ara of Aligarh, piercing the SI’s abdomen before hitting Yaqub in the head, the UP police report said.

The family finds it hard to believe this explanation, questioning how the bullet could have followed such a trajectory.

Yaqub’s father expressed his skepticism, saying, “The police say a bullet struck my son’s head after loading a jammed gun. I can’t understand how that’s possible.”

“There is something fishy in the whole episode,” a family member said on condition of anonymity.

AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also expressed doubts on social media, asking, “How did a jammed pistol fired accidentally pierce the SI’s abdomen and then hit Yaqub’s head? The inquiry must investigate this thoroughly.”

The family’s concerns and the MP Owaisi’s questions highlight the need for a transparent and credible investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yaqub’s death.
