Dalit man brutally assaulted by police in Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal: In a deeply troubling incident, a Dalit man was subjected to brutal assault by Indian policemen in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Madhya Pradesh state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, identified as Rohit Valmiki, a sanitary worker, was assaulted in Khajuraho town of the state.
Valimiki recounted that he was on his way home on his motorcycle when he overtook vehicles belonging to personnel from the police and electricity departments. Following this, he said he was accused of reckless driving, verbally abused, and then taken to a police station where he was physically assaulted.
Valmiki’s brother confirmed the account, stating that the police officers thrashed him at the station.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern, highlighting ongoing issues of caste-based discrimination and police brutality in Modi’s India.
