Srinagar records season’s hottest day, 4th highest ever in July

Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley is experiencing, today, a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring to unprecedented levels.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Srinagar recorded its hottest day of the season on Sunday, with a scorching temperature of 36.2°C. This is the 4th highest temperature ever recorded in July in Srinagar.

As per the meteorological department, the all-time highest maximum temperature in July for Srinagar was recorded at 38.3°C on July 10, 1946. Other notable temperature records include 37°C on July 9, 1999, and 36.6°C in 1997.

Other parts of the valley also experienced record-breaking temperatures. Qazigund recorded its highest ever maximum temperature in July at 35.6°C, while Kokernag recorded a temperature of 34.6°C, its highest ever in July.

The heatwave is expected to continue, with generally cloudy weather and intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers forecasted for the next few days. However, a significant fall in day temperature is expected from July 29 onwards.

The meteorological department has also warned of intense showers, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas, with a possibility of heavy rainfall in few places of Jammu region.
