Kashmiri Muslims fear identity erasure as India pushes Hindutva agenda

Srinagar: The Muslim identity of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is under attack, as the Modi regime has intensified efforts to impose Hindutva agenda in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, since August 5, 2019, when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government illegally revoked Article 370, stripping Kashmiris of their special status and identity, the situation has worsened.
“Our Muslim identity is under attack,” says Kashmiri resident, Abdul Rahman. “The Modi government is trying to impose a Hindu agenda on us, erasing our cultural, linguistic, and religious heritage.”
“This move was a blatant attempt to snatch our Muslim identity and undermine our struggle for self-determination,” adds Rahman.
The Modi regime has been accused of trying to erase the Muslim character of IIOJK by settling non-locals in the region, altering its Muslim-majority status, and imposing Hindu-centric policies. “This demographic change violates international norms and has sparked widespread outrage among Kashmiris,” says another Kashmiri resident, Ahmad Wani.
Preserving their unique identity is a vital issue for Kashmiri Muslims, who fear that their heritage is being systematically erased. “The Modi government’s actions have stripped us of our honor and identity, leaving us feeling vulnerable and disenfranchised,” he added.
Kashmiris have vowed never to accept the changes imposed on August 5, 2019, and are demanding that India be pressured to preserve their identity and implement UN resolutions on Kashmir. “The international community must take notice of the ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK and hold India accountable for its actions,” says Salman Pandit, a resident of Srinagar.
