Maharashtra faces risk of Manipur-like violence, warns Sharad Pawar
Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has expressed concern that Maharashtra may witness violence similar to that in Manipur, where ethnic clashes between Kukis and Meiteis have been ongoing for over a year.
Pawar attributed the possibility of such violence in Maharashtra to the failure of the central government to maintain unity and law and order.
Addressing a public event in Navi Mumbai, Pawar criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not addressing the Manipur issue effectively. He noted that Maharashtra’s legacy of promoting harmony and equality, thanks to its stalwarts, has so far prevented such violence.
Pawar’s comments come amid growing tensions between Marathas and OBCs in Maharashtra over quota protests. He emphasized the need for dialogue between stakeholders to address the issue, stating that the Maharashtra government should engage in more talks to avoid misunderstandings.
Last week, Pawar met with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to discuss the tension between the Maratha and OBC communities. His warning about the possibility of Manipur-like violence in Maharashtra highlights the gravity of uneasiness under Modi regime in India.
