Islamic preacher Mufti Salman Azhari completes 200 days in detention in India
Ahmedabad: Mufti Salman Azhari, a prominent Indian Islamic preacher, has been in detention for nearly 200 days, despite being granted bail in initial cases against him in Guarat, India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Azhari was arrested by Gujarat Police on February 5 for allegedly delivering provocative speeches in Junagadh and Kutch East.
Although he was granted bail in these cases, Azhari remains in detention under the Gujarat Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA), typically applied to individuals involved in serious criminal activities. The Gujarat High Court has upheld the application of PASA, rejecting Azhari’s plea to have the act removed from his case.
Azhari faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Azhari’s legal team plans to appeal the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court.
