Elections under military shadow cannot replace right to self-determination: Shabbir Shah
Srinagar: Illegally detained Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, has said that the election drama staged under the shadow of guns in occupied Jammu and Kashmir cannot replace the right to self-determination, acknowledged by the United Nations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a message from New Delhi’s Tihar jail, Shabbir Shah said that Indian rulers should learn from the past and to create a conducive environment for a peaceful and lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute.
He emphasized that Kashmir is a political issue that can be resolved through meaningful dialogue between the three parties, rather than through force.
Shabbir Shah expressed severe concern over the unrealistic and double-standard approach of Indian rulers towards Jammu and Kashmir, saying that they cannot change ground realities through military and aggressive policies. He said that the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir will not back down from their demand for the right to self-determination.
The APHC leader clarified that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected the hollow slogans of Indian rulers and their agents. He said that thousands of Kashmiri leaders and youth are imprisoned for demanding the right to self-determination. He reiterated the demand for a UN-supervised plebiscite to determine the political future of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying that it is the only way to achieve a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue and establish peace in the South Asian region.
