India escalates military presence in IIOJK with 2,000 additional troops
Srinagar: The BJP-led Indian government has increased its military presence in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir with the deployment of an additional 2,000 troops, further escalating the repression of Kashmiris striving for their UN-recognized right to self-determination.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the latest deployment includes two battalions of the Indian Army’s Assam Rifles and a Sector Headquarters, all totaling approximately 2,000 troops, who have been transferred from India’s Nagaland state to Jammu region.
Indian defense officials have confirmed that these additional forces have been deployed in Doda district. The officials claimed that the deployment comes in response to a recent surge in attacks and in anticipation of the forthcoming Assembly elections in the region.
Last month, the BJP government had already bolstered its military presence by deploying two battalions of the Assam Rifles from Manipur. This was in addition to the previous deployment of 3,000 Indian Army personnel and 2,000 Border Security Force (BSF) troops to various districts in the Jammu region, including Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, and Kathua.
The escalation of military personnel in IIOJK is exacerbating the already severe hardships faced by the Kashmiri people, who have long endured the impact of Indian state brutality and oppression.
