Indian army-sponsored VDGs receive special training to target Muslims in IIOJK

Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, members of the Indian Army-sponsored killer gang Village Defence Guards (VDGs), a militia established to target and terrorize Muslims advocating for their right to self-determination, are undergoing intensive training in Rajouri district.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian occupation authorities are investing considerable effort in strengthening this militia to effectively suppress Muslim communities in the hilly areas of Jammu region.

In a fresh initiative to enhance VDG members’ weapon handling and firing skills, the Indian Army conducted a specialized training session for them near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowshera sub-division of Rajouri. During this session, participants practiced aiming and firing at designated targets on shooting ranges, honing their skills in weapon handling, maintenance, and target accuracy.

Village Defence Guards, formerly known as Village Defence Committees, are active across the hilly regions of Jammu, including Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts. Members with Hindutva affiliations have been incorporated into this militia, which has a history of severe human rights abuses. In the 1990s, VDG members were responsible for the killing of Muslim youth, the destruction of Muslim properties, and acts of violence against Muslim women.
