200 apple trees mysteriously chopped down in Shopian
Srinagar: In an unfortunate incident, approximately 200 apple trees were found chopped down in Shopian district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the trees were cut down overnight by unknown individuals, leaving the local farmers and orchard owners in a state of distress.
This incident has sparked concerns among the local population, who suspect that Indian forces’ personnel may be involved in the vandalism. In the past, there have been instances where Indian troops have been damaging crops and orchards in the Kashmir valley to cripple the local economy.
In 2019, several incidents of apple orchards being damaged and trees being chopped down were reported in various parts of Kashmir. The incidents were widely condemned by the local population, who lamented that Indian forces were targeting their livelihood because of their demand for right to self-determination.
The latest incident in Shopian has once again raised fears among the local farmers and orchard owners, who are already struggling to make ends meet due to the prevailing economic conditions.
Previously, the Indian government had planned to lay a railway track on land marked for apple cultivation, which is the main source of livelihood for many Kashmiri people.
