Indian CRPF constable commits suicide in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: An Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable committed suicide in the violence-hit Chhattisgarh state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the CRPF constable identified as Suresh Sonwani (35), committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in the Demar, Arjuni police station limits of Dhamtari district.

Family members revealed that Suresh was struggling with marital issues, feeling his marriage had failed. He was exhausted from constant quarrels with his wife, who had moved back to her parents’ home with their eight-year-old son while Suresh was on duty in Pulwama district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Suresh had returned home on a month’s leave and briefly reconciled with his wife, but another dispute led her to leave again with their son.

This incident marks the sixth suicide by Indian paramilitary personnel in Chhattisgarh within last three months. On September 14, a CRPF head constable shot himself in Sukma district, just two days after returning from leave. On September 3, a constable of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) committed suicide in Kanker, while on August 27 another SSB man killed himself in Durg district. On August 26, a head constable of the CRPF shot himself dead with his service weapon in Dantewada, and a soldier of the Border Security Force (BSF) died similarly in Kanker on June 20.
