Karnataka High Court judge refers to Muslim-majority area as ‘Mini Pakistan’

Bangalore: In what highlights bias in India’s judiciary, a Karnataka High Court judge has stirred outrage by referring to a Muslim-majority area in Bangalore as “Mini Pakistan” during a hearing.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Judge Vidyasagar Chandrashekhara Dinakaran made the remarks while presiding over a dispute between a landlord and tenant.

“Go to that Mysuru Road flyover. Every auto rickshaw has got 10 people. It is not applicable because the Mysore flyover right up to the flower market from Gori Palya is in Pakistan, not in India. This is the reality. This is the reality. No matter how strict police officer you put there, they will be beaten up there,” Justice Srishananda is heard saying in a video clip of the hearing that has gone viral on social media.

The comment has drawn widespread criticism on social media.

India’s Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of the incident, expressing displeasure and seeking a report from the High Court registrar. The apex court emphasized that judges should maintain judicial dignity while making remarks.
