Protesters in New York denounce Modi’s visit to UN, demand Kashmir freedom
New York: New York saw a wave of protests as Kashmiris and Sikhs condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival at New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly’s 79th session.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstrators labeled Modi unwelcome, citing his role in killings in Indian occupied Kashmir and Kashmir and abroad including Canada and the United States.
Slogans echoed through the streets: “Freedom for Kashmir!” “Stop Modi’s Brutality!” “Long Live Khalistan!”
The protest, organized by Friends of Kashmir International, vowed to continue the movement until Kashmir’s freed from India’s tyrannical clutches.
“We won’t back down until Kashmir is free,” declared Chairperson Ghazala Habib.
The UNGA’s high-level week, taking place from September 23-27, will focus on accelerating progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing climate change, poverty, inequality, and global health crises. World leaders will gather for the annual General Debate under the theme “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations”
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2024, wherein he will raise the issues of Kashmir and Palestine before the 193-member world forum.
