Youth conference in Brussels seeks EU’s role in addressing Kashmir dispute
Brussels: The Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) marked International Human Rights Day by hosting a European youth conference at the European Press Club in Brussels.
According to Kashmir media Service, the event, themed “Pathways to Peace: Human Rights as a Foundation for Resolution for Jammu and Kashmir,” drew active participation from European students and youth, focusing on grave human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Prominent speakers, including KCEU Chairman Ali Raza Syed, intellectual Shiraz Raaj, local government member Mohammad Nasir, European journalist Endre Barcs, Prof. Rubina Shah, and student activists Suleman Saddique, Shahazad Nawaz, Zarwan Ghamdi, Amina Iqbal, Syed Jaffar Shah, and Syed Hadi Shah, emphasized the importance of the day in raising awareness about human rights abuses and showing solidarity with victims worldwide.
The conference highlighted the European Union’s critical role in advocating for human rights and resolving conflicts including Kashmir dispute through international cooperation. Speakers urged European institutions to address the human rights crisis in IIOJK and actively support the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
KCEU Chairman Ali Raza Syed stressed the importance of mobilizing European youth to amplify the plight of Kashmiris and foster global awareness. He called for unified action to ensure the protection of human rights in Kashmir and solidarity with the ongoing struggle for justice and dignity.
The event concluded with a resounding call for international action to uphold human rights in Kashmir. Observed annually on December 10, International Human Rights Day commemorates the United Nations’ adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, reinforcing the global commitment to dignity, freedom, and justice for all.
