Jailed APHC leader demands Kashmir resolution for regional peace
Srinagar: Illegally detained senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah, currently detained in New Delhi’s Tihar jail, has sought urgent intervention by the United Nations to resolve the Kashmir dispute as per its Security Council resolutions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC leader in a message from the jail expressed concern over the BJP regime’s anti-Kashmiri agendas, and urged the UN to prevent the BJP/RSS from pursuing the Hindutva agenda in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah emphasized that resolving the Kashmir dispute is crucial for lasting peace in South Asia and globally, given the territory’s strategic location amidst three nuclear powers – Pakistan, India, and China – housing nearly half the world’s population.
He said Kashmir has been turned into a military zone and war garrison, with frequent human rights violations carried out by India’s occupation troops. He said post-August 2019, the BJP regime has taken steps to disempower Kashmiris, intensifying atrocities in the territory.
Shah urged the international community to consider the Kashmir dispute’s sensitivity and pressure India to stop human rights violations and resolve the dispute according to UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people
Shabbir Ahmad Shah and other Hurriyet leaders, including APHC chairman Massarat Alam Butt, were arrested in 2015 and 2017, respectively, and are currently lodged in Tihar jail.
