Farmers’ protest disrupts rail services in Indian Punjab
Chandigarh: The farmers’ protest in Indian Punjab has caused disruptions to rail services, with the Shatabdi train (12046) from Chandigarh to New Delhi being delayed by two hours.
The protest, called by various farmer groups, has affected a total of 20 trains, according to a senior railway official. The delay has caused inconvenience to hundreds of passengers, who were supposed to reach New Delhi at 3:30 pm.
“We decided to delay the train’s start at the origin itself rather than stopping it midway and causing more inconvenience to passengers,” said a senior railway official. The official added that the train is expected to cross Lalru around 3 pm, by which time the protesting farmers are expected to have stopped their agitation.
Passengers who were affected by the delay expressed their frustration and disappointment. “We were supposed to reach New Delhi for an important meeting, but now we will be late. This is unacceptable,” said a passenger.
The farmers’ protest is a result of their demands for better prices for their crops and other grievances. The protest has caused disruptions to traffic and daily life in the region, and the rail blockade has added to the chaos.
Railway officials are working to restore normalcy to the rail services, but the situation remains uncertain.
Passengers are advised to check the status of their trains before embarking on their journey.
