Traders protest unscheduled power cuts, block Srinagar-Baramulla highway
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, traders took to the streets in Pattan area of Baramulla district, protesting the prolonged and frequent power cuts plaguing the town.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration, which blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, brought traffic to a standstill, causing inconvenience to commuters.
At the heart of the issue is the inconsistent electricity supply, with Pattan receiving only a few hours of power despite being a metered area. Nasir Bashir, president of the Traders Federation, expressed frustration over the repeated pleas to concerned officials, which have fallen on deaf ears.
“We’ve raised this issue multiple times, but no action has been taken,” he said.
Another protester echoed Bashir’s sentiments, highlighting the severity of the situation. “We receive only 2-3 hours of electricity per day. This is nothing short of harassment. The government must address this issue immediately,” he urged.
