Hindu rioters reveal police complicity in anti-Muslim violence in UP

New Delhi: A shocking revelation has been made about Indian police’s complicity in the recent anti-Muslim riots in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.

According to Kashmir Media Service, two Hindu youths, Sabori Mishra and Prem Mishra, confessed to participating in the violence, claiming that police gave them a two-hour window to attack Muslims and destroy their properties, investigation by Hindi daily Dainik Bhashkar reported.

The riots erupted on October 14, following the death of Ram Gopal Mishra, with hundreds attacking Muslim houses and shops. A two-wheeler showroom and Lucknow Sewa Hospital, owned by a Muslim, were set ablaze. The rioters also targeted vehicles, with some 30 bikes burned.

In a recorded conversation, the youths stated, “The police had given us two hours. All of the police force had gone away.” They added that some individuals betrayed their trust, preventing the complete destruction of Maharajganj.

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav have accused the BJP of instigating the riots. Singh stated, “BJP cannot give employment to your children but only bombs and destruction.” Yadav said, “BJP MLAs are filing complaints against their own party workers for conspiring and inciting violence.”
