A dark day for Kashmiris: Hurriyat leaders denounce India’s 1947 occupation
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have said that October 27 is one of the darkest days in the territory’s history as on this day in 1947 India occupied the Kashmiris’ homeland against their will and aspirations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in their statements issued from Srinagar, the Hurriyat leaders and organizations, including Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, Fayaz Hussain Jafari, Maulana Sibte Shabir Qumi, Jammu Kashmir Students and Youth Forum, emphasized that the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir represents a blot on the so-called Indian democracy. They asserted that the Kashmiri people have steadfastly resisted Indian rule for the past 77 years, sacrificing countless lives in their pursuit of justice and self-determination.
The leaders noted that India has employed various oppressive tactics to stifle the Kashmiri struggle, yet these efforts have consistently failed. Despite facing immense hardships, the resilience of the Kashmiri people remains unwavering. They called out the Modi government’s attempts to mislead the international community with misleading narratives about Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that the territory is internationally recognized as disputed, and its political future remains unresolved.
They underscored that a lasting peace and security in the region cannot be achieved without addressing the Kashmir dispute. The leaders articulated that the primary demand of the Kashmiri people is to end the illegal Indian occupation and to secure their right to self-determination, as per United Nations resolutions. They affirmed their commitment to continue this struggle relentlessly until their goals are realized.
In addition, they urged the international community to recognize the historical injustices faced by Kashmiris and to play a proactive role in facilitating dialogue to resolve the longstanding conflict. The leaders expressed hope that global awareness and support would help bring about a peaceful resolution that honors the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
