Indian troops kill three in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: Indian troops have killed three persons in the disturbed Chhattisgarh state of India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the killings occurred during a military operation in the hills near Rekhapalli and Komatpalli in the Bijapur district. The police dubbed the slain as the Communist Party of India (Maoist) guerrillas.
However, the family members of the victims said the slain were not Maoists, adding they were killed in a fake encounter. They were killed while in custody, the family added.
This brings the total number of suspected Maoists killed in the state’s Bastar region this year to 192, the Indian news agency reported. The area is a stronghold of Maoist guerrillas.
The Maoists and Marxist movements active in many Indian states including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra have been demanding independence from the Indian hegemony since 1947.
