Indian police arrest two journalists in Baramulla
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Indian police have arrested two journalists in Baramulla district, marking yet another attack on press freedom in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the police arrested journalists Mueeb ul Haq and Suhail Khan and registered a case against them in Sopore police station. Mueeb ul Haq hails from Sopore, while Suhail Khan is from Delina, Baramulla.
Indian police have accused the journalists of misreporting a firing incident, which allegedly had the potential to incite public unrest. The firing incident resulted in one person being injured, who later succumbed to his wounds at a hospital in Srinagar.
This latest arrest is part of a broader crackdown on journalists in IIOJK, where India has consistently sought to suppress independent reporting. Journalists in the occupied territory are increasingly being targeted, harassed and detained under various pretexts, including vague charges of promoting unrest. Such actions are aimed at stifling the free press and preventing the truth about the ongoing oppression and human rights abuses in IIOJK from reaching the international community. India’s growing crackdown on journalists is a direct assault on press freedom, with many reporters facing threats, intimidation, and arbitrary arrests for simply doing their job.
